NovaStar Data / Data Imports

Introduction

Data imports are typically run on a schedule in order to import data from other systems. This allows using the imported data for alarms, integrated visualizations, and calculations.

Data Imports in NovaStar

NovaStar allows data to be imported from other systems, for example:

  • import SHEF data from neighboring flood warning system
  • import USGS streamflow data
  • import interval data that was calculated outside of the data collection software

Data are typically imported to allow integrated use of the data in NovaStar, for example displays and alarms.

It is currently difficult in the NovaStar design to determine if data originate from an import. This is because many imports are implemented in bulk fashion where the station and point identifier in imported data are cross-referenced with identifiers in the system, but a specific one-to-one record of the import is not required. This approach makes it efficient to import data but but complicates knowing if a point's data originates from an import.

A work-around is to indicate the import in the point name or description and guidelines are being developed. In the future, the database may be enhanced to indicate imported points.

Services

The following services are related to imports.

  • tscatalog - returns a list of time series, including time series that are imported
  • ts - returns a time series
