NovaStar Data / Data Generators

NovaStar data are generated in various ways, as discussed below. It is important to understand how data are generated because troubleshooting data issues involves tracing the data flow path.

The NovaStar data collection components query data from various sources using different communication protocols such as ALERT/2 radio, ALERT/2 over IP, station polling using cell modems, satellite data feeds, internet web services, etc. The collected data are then processed and stored in the NovaStar database.

Each of the following system components results in data values being inserted in the database, with processes to evaluate data for validity and check for alarm conditions.

  • Calibrations - convert raw data to scaled values
  • Ratings - convert scaled values to other values
  • Equations - calculate point data values using other values in the database
  • Data Imports - import data from other systems
  • Forecasts - create forecasted time series
